After spending my childhood and teenage years in Powell River, it is always exciting to go back and reminisce and re-create great memories.  I recently had the chance to introduce my girlfriend to my hometown.  The question is, where do you take someone that has never been to Powell River before?  I thought I would compile a list of my top 10 must-stop date spots in Powell River.

10. Eagle River

One of the coolest swimming holes I’ve ever seen. Go for a swim, do some exciting cliff jumping, and even swim under the waterfall.  This is one of my favorites, but it is seasonal and best with warm temperatures.

9. Haywire Bay

World class camp site with fresh water swimming in Powell Lake.  If you’re into camping and you’re going to Powell River, this is the spot.

8. Lund Harbour

Often when I ask people if they have heard of Powell River, they ask if it is near Lund. Lund has earned a sterling reputation as a must-stop on the way to Desolation Sound. Spend the day visiting the craft shops, stop for lunch, or visit the pub for a drink. And ALWAYS stop in at Nancy’s Bakery.

7. Rocky Mountain Pizza and Bakery Co.

When I need to put fuel in the tank, this is my favourite spot to have lunch. Hawaiian pizza by the slice with fresh made bread crust. I make it a point to stop almost every time I am in Powell River.

6. Patricia Theatre

The Powell River theatre is the oldest operating theatre in Canada, a one-of-a-kind landmark in Powell River. It recently underwent a complete restoration and I am looking forward to taking in a movie the next time I’m home.

5. The View Point and Seawall

A morning walk along the seawall in Powell River is a very peaceful and romantic setting.  The views of the Ocean are breathtaking and it’s a great way to start the day.

4. The Beach Trail

The hiking trails in Powell River are endless, but if you’re looking for a flat easy access walk along the ocean with big beautiful Douglas Fir trees, look no further than the Willingdon Beach trail.  Along the way, you will see old logging equipment and a little taste of the logging industry in Powell River and its history.

3. Valentine Mountain

In my opinion, the best view of Powell River and its landscape.  You would be hard pressed to find a better view anywhere in town. It is a really short hike. and a great place to have lunch overlooking the mill, Savary Island and the beautiful Coast.

2. Willingdon Beach

When I picture Willingdon Beach, I picture amazing sunsets, Seafair, and of course riding Popeye and Olive Oil in the campground (which you’re not allowed to do anymore!). On a date though,  a stop at Willingdon Beach would not be complete without a chocolate dipped ice cream cone from Kathie’s Kitchen (I’m sure it’s a different name now, but it will always be Kathie’s Kitchen to me), and a walk out onto the pier.

1. Powell Lake

This is the place that I have the most fond memories and I am always proud to show it off to someone who hasn’t experienced it before.  A short boat trip to local float and land cabins offer a home away from home and an experience like no other.  Swimming, fishing, sun tanning, BBQing, waterskiing….. the list goes on.

These are my favorites.  What are your favorite date spots in Powell River?
