3 Reasons why logger sports should return to Powell River
Powell River is calling Bob Marquis’ bluff.
When local logger Marquis gave an interview to Ferns & Fallers magazine this week, he made a deal with Powell River. If 5,000 locals say they want logger sports back – and they’ll help with it – Bob will put it on again.

For the two decades spanning the early 1980s until 2005, Bob was instrumental in organizing the two-day, biannual event. It was, for a time, the largest logger sports show in the world, attracting teams from Australia, New Zealand, and all over North America. TSN came to film it, and competitors broke Guinness Book of World Records titles.
“The magazine isn’t even on the street yet,” said Ferns & Fallers editor Pieta Woolley, “and already word of mouth and social media is creating quite the buzz. People love logger sports.”
Within 48 hours of posting a Facebook page called, “Bring Back Logger Sports Powell River,” more than 450 people had signed up. The total as of this posting is over 1950.
Marquis said that it takes a lot of work and money to put on the show. He needs help if he’s going to make it go again.

1. Hunky loggers, sharp axes, loud chainsaws and people falling into water. If you don’t like at least one of those things, you need your pulse checked.
2. It’s absence has been a hole in the community. Just read the comments in the Group.
3. Lumberjack fashion is in style. If you’re a hipster or fashionista, it will be like a fashion show, but truly authentic.
