Smiley vendors and fresh food at the Winter Market

What: The Winter Market

Where: The Community Resource Centre on Joyce Avenue

When: Saturdays 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m

This year, my son joined hockey and each Saturday afternoon as were headed home from the arena, I gazed longingly out the window as we passed by as the vendors were packing up their tents and getting ready to close down for the day. I promised myself that once hockey was over and I could make it, I was going to check that market out.

Well, today was the day and I was not disappointed! If you have never made your way to the Winter Market which is held each Saturday morning from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., you really must get yourself there next Saturday.

The selection of goods is amazing and the friendliness of the vendors is equally so. There are many local delectables to be had at the market from fresh breads, scones, and pies to fresh pasta, local stinging nettles, produce, local meats, and eggs. We were greeted by locally made granola and frozen locally grown raspberries and blueberries, and for the extra sweet tooth there was also locally made candy. People are lined up at their favourite vendors to get while the getting is good! And this was just the parking lot!

Inside, we found coffee, tea, pottery, sewing, soaps, and oh, so much more. The selection was amazing and the amount of people who choose to spend their Saturdays selling their wares is unbelievable.

Our trip to the market wouldn’t be complete without a bag of fresh, locally made savoury tarts to take home to share. I am a new fan of the Winter Market. If you’re looking for fresh and local, this is the place to be.

Can you smell it?

In April, the Open Air Market will resume for the spring and summer season, but until then the Community Resource Centre on Saturday mornings is the place to be!
